hi! i'm kamaile. i'm very glad you stopped by my site so THANK YOU! stay while and look around :)
just to get this out of the way, my name is kamailelauli'iokauai. the name was given to me by my grandmother. it is hawaiian and means "the little maile from the island of kauai". i go by kamaile (ka-my-lee) or maile (my-lee), either is just fine. my mom used to tell people to think "smiley kamaile" it rhymes so seems to help the memory...
Coming from years of graffiti obsession and working in tattoo shops, i like to mix a little of both with my own flare. mix that together and you pretty much get me. i have zero formal training. i have made it my mission to dabble with several mediums. watercolor is probably my favorite. i also love stenciling, charcoal, acrylic, oils and even sculpture. but i have to admit i am happy coloring with crayons in a coloring book as well (as long as they are crayola...they smell the best!).
As of late, i have been playing around with mixing stencils and watercolor. it has been quite surprising and fun. i hope more good things will come from it!
I also have been painting people i know or have graciously agreed to be models. the basic concept is to mix 2 things i think are beautiful, body art and watercolor. most people think watercolor and think of landscapes and crappy flowers. i love to break a lot of stereotypes with these pieces. They are fun and i hope i will be able to continue making them!
being up in galleries is a dream come true for me. in fact i believe my new years resolution was to have art up in a gallery by june. it happened and i feel like the luckiest girl ever! since many people helped me, i have decided to help other artists.
